More virtual worlds events
I have had more meetings in the real world on the subject of virtual worlds in the last few weeks than in the last year! Well, maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration, but there have been several. I mentioned the talk at SF MOMA the presentation at San Jose State School of Library and Information Science and the arts and humanities conference. Earlier this week Dave Kamalsky and I shared some time on the agenda of the Virtual-Worlds Consortium for Innovation and Learning workshop at SRI International. And tonight I am doing a virtual world demo for a business class at UC Berkeley. Unfortunately this last event is on my plate because Jean Paul Jacob is in the hospital and will not be able to make it in person. It will be nice to visit Berkeley again, where I lived for a year as a child in a house on Hopkins Street, within earshot of Memorial Stadium. It continues to astonish me how the social network of the virtual world is connecting me and reconnecting me to so many people and places in the real world!

I do have to admit a slight jealousy of people who live in California, because you’re so close to a lot of great universities and have the opportunity to meet people face-to-face.
On the other hand, I have lived in California and spent enough time there to know that I may save myself some wear-and-tear on my body by communicating virtually.
This is from someone who is just about to leave on a round-the-world trip of Toronto - Tokyo - Beijing - Helsinki - Toronto. If I think about my normal life, I must average less than 2 hours per week driving a car … but I guess the air miles overcompensate in a different way.
